A significant New Afrikan Political Prisoner, revolutionary organizer, leader of people’s struggles, revolutionary theorist, and movement builder, Shaka Shakur co-founded the New Afrikan Liberation Collective, organizes with IDOC Watch, writes for Prison Lives Matter and Black Agenda Report, among other activities. Shaka has been held captive by the state of Indiana since 2002, when they imprisoned him on trumped-up charges of attempted murder of a cop. Not only was there no attempted murder, and not only is the officer injured by debris in the incident not opposed to post-conviction relief for Shaka, but Shaka has already served the entirety of his initial sentence. The real reason he remains a political prisoner is because of his central role as an organizer within, across, and beyond prison bars. After the Indiana Department of “Corrections” failed to neutralize his organizing, they put him in “domestic exile” and sent him to a Virginia prison.
