“Manifestations of Thought:” Book and panel discussion

Friday, February 13
6:30-8:00 pm
Indy Liberation Store

Join us on Friday, February 13, at the Indy Liberation Store for a powerful discussion of Manifestations of Thought: When the Dragon Comes, the selected writings of political prisoner and New Afrikan movement leader Shaka A. Shakur.

This collection brings together Shaka’s most significant personal, theoretical, and organizational writings, offering a handbook for liberation, a love letter to the movement, and a direct call to build people’s power. As Derek Ford writes in the introduction, “The fact this book has made it to publication… is evidence that the state’s escalating efforts to silence Shaka have so far failed.”

Hear from those who continue to organize for Shaka’s freedom and the liberation of all political prisoners:

Dani Abdullah is a proud Black and queer person. As an organizer with ANSWER Indiana and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, they are heavily invested in the liberation of New Afrikan/ Black people and of all people suffering under capitalism. Dani has fought for LGBTQ+ rights, abortion access, Palestinian liberation, and to end police terror in Indianapolis. She is also a co-host of the weekly podcast, Naptown People’s Radio. Outside of their organizing, Dani is a mom, a wife, a social worker, a Certified Sexual Abuse Youth Councilor, the founder and CEO of You Are a Gift, LLC, and serves on the Board of Hear Her Voice.

Dr. Akili Sadiki-Shakur, a retired educator from Purdue University Northwest, has been involved in the struggle against the racist mass incarceration system for decades. During this work, she met and eventually married her husband, Shaka A. Shakur. Akili is currently Director of Saving Our Families (SOF) in Northwest Indiana and Treasurer of the Shaka Shakur Freedom Campaign.

Bridget O’Reilly is the manager of the Indy Liberation Store, a volunteer at the Indy Liberation Center, and an organizer with the Party for Socialism and Liberation. She was an assistant editor and videographer for “Across Enemy Lines,” a documentary about Shaka A. Shakur, released in late 2025. As an organizer, she fights for Palestinian liberation, Korean reunification, exonerating Vernon T. Bateman, LGBTQ+ rights, Black liberation, prison abolition, and ending IMPD terror. Bridget is also a photographer, designer, and astrologer.

Together, we’ll explore Shaka’s writings on love, masculinity, mental health, organizing, and revolutionary theory and discuss what it means to continue the fight for abolition, justice, and collective liberation today. This event is more than a book talk. It’s a gathering of solidarity, strategy, and spirit rooted in the ongoing struggle to free Shaka and all those held captive by the prison-industrial complex.

Manifestations of Thought is available to purchase online or in person at the Indy Liberation Store. No prior reading required!
