Have you or your child been the victim of bullying and harassment in Decatur Township Schools? Have you experienced or witnessed gender, race, or sexuality-based discrimination from school administrators? Join the community meeting on Saturday, September 14, to discuss the current situation and how we can change it together!

Local mother and PSL Indianapolis member Doris Jones knows all too well how swiftly school administrators cast doubt on a bullied child’s testimony, readily dismissing the impact of racism and queerphobia on their experience.

Jones’ son, who is transgender, has been facing bullying from students and teachers since last year. In August, Jones’ son was enrolled at Decatur Middle School. Bus #17 was scheduled to pick up Jones’ son between 7:05 and 7:10 am. On August 9th, the bus refused to stop. Jones’ son has since missed several days of school due to the bus driver’s refusal to stop for him, which administrators have refused to excuse. After hearing friends and colleagues share their stories of discrimination in Decatur Township, Jones decided to call for a community meeting.

“If it’s happening to my kid, and it’s happened to all these other people, it’s happening to other kids right now,” Jones said. “I’m determined to address the systemic failures impacting our children’s education.”

Join the conversation from 12:00 to 2:00 pm on September 14 and start building a movement for education justice in Decatur Township! Snacks and water will be provided. Attendees of all ages are welcome.
