All Souls Unitarian Church, Students for Socialism – IUI, the Sociology Club at IUPUI, and the Indianapolis Liberation Center are hosting a screening of and discussion about Gaza Fights for Freedom, an independent documentary directed and written by Abby Martin and produced by Mike Prysner, both of The Empire Files. The event also includes a communal check-in and refreshments.

The award-winning documentary depicts the ongoing Great March of Return protests in the Gaza Strip,  occupied Palestine, that began in 2018. Israeli state forces have so far killed over 150 Palestinian participants, and injured over 10,000 more, many with life-changing injuries.

Presenting the barbaric injustices Israel imposes on Gaza, the film is as difficult to watch as it is necessary. Israel’s blockade and imprisonment prevents over 50 percent of people living in Gaza from receiving medical treatment and kills countless Palestinians from injuries sustained by bombings and Israeli attacks, unsafe water, electricity outages, and malnutrition. One Israeli government advisor to Dov Weisglass said this is calculated “to put the Palestinians on a diet, but not to make them die of hunger.”

Join us as we remember the martyrs and this heroic act of nonviolent resistance that was met by the most brutal violence. The film provides important recent context for the current iteration of the Palestinian resistance struggle and provides a source of hope and inspiration for the world.
