Women fight back! Rediscovering history to build the future

Wednesday, March 26
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Indianapolis Liberation Center

How should we celebrate Women’s History Month as the Trump administration unleashes an all-out assault against oppressed and working-class people here and around the globe? By rediscovering the revolutionary history of the centuries-long struggle against women’s oppression in the United States and its relation to socialist revolutions. At this month’s Liberation Forum, we’ll move our fight forward by:

  • Discussing the real history of the women’s rights struggle, from women’s participation in the abolitionist movement to the multinational, multiracial feminist mass movements of the 1960s-80s;
  • Analyzing the role of women in socialist revolutions and the gains they secured for women and all people;
  • Providing a framework for understanding and fighting women’s oppression based on the theoretical foundations laid by Black communists and other radical organizers in the U.S.

As the forum takes place a day before the 48th anniversary of the Indianapolis-born revolutionary Shirley Graham Du Bois’ passing in Beijing, we’ll formally introduce our Fonseca-Du Bois Art Gallery and share more about her contributions to radical culture and politics. And, of course, we’ll present opportunities to get plugged into the struggle.

Women’s oppression has changed along with economic exploitation. The denial of rights and unequal treatment under capitalism manifests in myriad ways. Still, we have only won our rights through mass movements, which we need to build now more than ever.

If you’re ready to start struggling with us, apply to join the PSL or learn more about the Indianapolis branch. In any case, we want your participation and will help find you a place in the movement!
