Urgent: Shaka Shakur denied care while awaiting surgery

Anywhere and everywhere (instructions below)

Political prisoner Shaka A. Shakur, who was recently transferred to yet another prison in Virginia, got a “rough ride” to a medical ward several days ago. While he waits for a necessary knee replacement, however, he and his fellow inmates are being denied the most basic care and provisions. Shaka, who was diagnosed with Stage 2 Kidney Disease in 2009 but didn’t get any treatment for 14 years, is unable to eat any meals, which consist mostly of chicken bone.

Under the supervision of Steve Herrick, Deputy Director of Health Services, who is not a medical doctor, the medical treatment wards are worse than the already notoriously horrendous conditions of Virginia’s prisons.

Shaka has been denied the right to have video calls with his wife, family, and friends. They continue to deny him access to any of his personal property, all of which remains completely unaccounted for. In other words, it is possible that his personal items have been stolen or permanently lost.

Call and email the prison authorities below to demand Shaka and all Virginia prisoners in need of medical treatment receive the most basic levels of care!
