As the WNBA All-Star weekend celebrates the achievements of Caitlin Clark and other groundbreaking women in basketball, we must also demand respect and safety for women in all spaces—including local government.
The state legislature just banned trans girls from playing sports in K-12 schools and this year banned trans athletes participating in sports at the college level. This is another layer of state-sanctioned attacks on women. We must stand with all women on their fight for justice and liberation.
Recent scandals have exposed a disturbing pattern of sexual assault and harassment within Mayor Hogsett’s administration, the City-County Council, and at the state level. While we cheer for women athletes breaking barriers, we must also stand with women workers facing systemic abuse and institutional betrayal.
Sexual assault is an epidemic—and Indianapolis must act.
- 1 in 4 women in the U.S. experiences completed or attempted rape in their lifetime (CDC).
- In Indiana, 3 in 5 women report being victims of sexual violence (Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault).
- Nearly 80% of workplace sexual assaults go unreported due to fear of retaliation or lack of accountability (American Association of University Women).
Yet, instead of protecting survivors, Mayor Hogsett and Council President Samuel “Vop” Osili have shielded predators within their ranks often attacking victims to do so. We refuse to stay silent.
At this rally, we call on all attendees to bring a pair of shoes—symbolizing the survivors in our lives and the steps we must take toward justice. Together, we will strengthen our fight for the liberation of all women.
Our power to effect change lies in solidarity. Join us as we say: Enough is enough!
