A manufactured crisis: IMPD is the greatest threat

Two members of the Indianapolis branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation spoke against Proposal No. 314 at the September 25 meeting of the Public Safety & Criminal Justice Committee. The Committee voted to advance Prop. 314, an ordinance written by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to create revenue streams through fines and seizure of vehicles from events the police deem to be an “illegal street race.”

The ordinance is so poorly written that perfectly ordinary events like funeral processions, block parties, or protests could be considered “illegal street races” under its definition, making it ripe for abuse by racist cops. The “street takeover” panic is a manufactured crisis to justify the record budget for IMPD, even though they have continued their deadly streak of killing our people with their patrol cars without facing any repercussions.
