Show up and demand for justice for Adam Sykes! It’s up to the people to stand with the family of Adam “AJ” Sykes, and keep the IMPD in check! We will park and stage at Willard Park, march past the gas station where Adam was killed and head to the City County Building. The PSL working alongside AJ’s family have put the IMPD on notice after new audio recovered during an independent investigation. The audio proves that the IMPD censored crucial evidence in the case. IMPD has until Friday, April 25 by 5pm to release all unedited footage to the family. Killer cops should not be free to terrorize our Black and Brown communities,  taking lives repeatedly year after year. As people we know that our power lies in the streets, so we will be there to make our demands heard loud and clear:

  • Release the unedited body camera footage of what happened on Feb. 25..
  • Fire Grant Snyder.
  • Charge Snyder with Sykes’ murder!

It’s been 2 months since IMPD Officer Grant Snyder murdered Adam Sykes, a Black man who was attempting to assist a woman on the night of February 25. Minutes after arriving on that call, IMPD officer Grant Snyder shot and killed Adam Sykes, a man completely unconnected to the reported assault.

On a Friday, after 4:00 pm, the IMPD released a significantly edited video to portray Sykes as a wanted villain and Snyder as a hero. We know that this is another attempt by the racist killer cops to justify the lynching of Adam in the streets.

IMPD wants the public to believe they are justified in their killing of another Black man. What was this loving father, brother, and community member accused of doing that resulted in his active arrest warrant? Theft from Family Dollar, a felony charge because of a previous conviction of theft at Meijer.

The IMPD wants the public to believe that Adam Sykes was a vicious criminal who deserved to be executed in the street in front of people’s homes. But the real criminals are the bosses of Family Dollar, who steal millions of dollars from their workers’ paychecks and keep our people poor and desperate. No police officer, whose job it is to protect businesses’ property, would ever think of gunning down a CEO on the street over something like wage theft.

Police cannot be allowed to murder our community members with impunity simply because they “have a feeling” someone has a warrant and they are Black. This is a clear violation of due process and several General Orders of conduct that the IMPD are required to follow. Killer cops should not be allowed to run free in our communities. Help us make our demands clear, and protect the streets from Grant Snyder and the murderous IMPD! Add your name to the petition here
