Join the Party for Socialism and Liberation and others to demand an end to the de facto capital punishment being doled out by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office! Reuters reported this year that Marion County Jail’s death rate is more than 2-3x the national average.
Fifty-five individuals have died while in Marion County’s custody between 2008 and 2019. Not one of those people had been found guilty, and not one of them was sentenced to die. Whether victimized by other inmates or correctional officers, those people were in the custody and under the supposed protection of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and their deaths are a shame to our city and justice system.
Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal and his deputies have neglected, abused, and allowed guiltless citizens to die — join us outside the Marion County jail on the corner of Maryland and Delaware on September 17th, 5:30-6:30 PM to call for an end to this war on prisoners and for the liberation of all incarcerated people!
