Support Hope Packages so we can continue to grow!

Join us on the third Saturday of September for our monthly direct political-aid package assembly! Building off of our momentum from last month’s Black August event, which focused on moving from serving the people to struggling for the people, take part in a community action that challenges the systems that create food insecurity.

Because the system uses hunger as a tool of repression, this month we highlight Point 5 of our 10-Point Program: “Ending food apartheid: Guarantee the equal distribution of high-quality and affordable grocery stores in all neighborhoods.” We will fight food apartheid in its many forms taking shape here in Indiana and across the globe (from the reduction of food stamps to millions of households to the seizing of aid and food–creating a cruel U.S.-Israeli-made mass starvation in Gaza) and discuss what actions we can take here in our city to guarantee access to food for all people.

You can always donate to Hope Packages, and, if possible, become a monthly Sustainer at whatever price you can afford. The more Sustainers we have, the more reliably we can organize and distribute our packages! This month we especially need socks, underwear, deodorant, and handwarmers. You can also purchase items directly from our Amazon wishlist  that will be sent to the Indianapolis Liberation Center.

As we continue to fight against food apartheid in our city, we also want to fight against it in Palestine, consider donating to Gaza Soup Kitchen. In early 2024, two brothers, Hani and Mahmoud Almadhoun, founded the Gaza Soup Kitchen. What began as a personal vow to ensure their neighbors in Beit Lahia, Gaza, wouldn’t go hungry quickly grew into a grassroots movement. Mahmoud, a central pillar of their mission, was tragically killed in a drone strike, but his legacy lives on through his family and friends who manage their kitchens today. His final word, “Mostamreen” (مستمرين), which means “we will continue,” is their guiding principle.
