PSL Indianapolis is hosting a community-led discussion on police violence and the fight for justice in Indianapolis with our partners at Hovey Street Church of Christ. Families impacted by IMPD violence, including Kim Gray (mother of Eric Taylor), Nikki Schumpert (mother of Adam Sykes), and Jada Trainor (military veteran brutalized by police at Eskenazi Hospital), will share their stories and demand accountability.
This event falls during Black August, a time to honor the legacy of resistance against state violence and the prison-industrial complex. This is not a traditional town hall, but an act of collective truth-telling about the racist institution of policing itself. We’ll center community voices through breakout discussions where attendees can share their experiences, strategize ways to dismantle police power in our communities, and build solidarity against the epidemic of racist police terror in Indianapolis and beyond.
Eric Taylor, a father of three, was shot and killed by IMPD Officer Bryan Gibson in September 2023, but bodycam footage contradicts police claims that he posed a threat. Jada Trainor, a Black veteran and mother of five, was violently assaulted by police officers at Eskenazi Hospital in 2024 while seeking emergency care and now faces retaliatory felony charges for defending herself. Adam Sykes, father and beloved community member, was gunned down by Officer Grant Snyder in February 2025 after IMPD abandoned an injured woman to instead chase, tase, and execute him—with audio evidence revealing an officer yelling “Fucking kill him!” moments before the shots.
This event is a space to expose the truth about Indianapolis police terror, challenge the systems that protect killer cops, and organize for justice alongside impacted families. No more cover-ups. No more silence. Join us to speak out and demand change.
