Free Darius (Hakim) Printup from unjust solitary confinement!

For the past four years, Darius (Hakim) Printup (IDOC #280904) has been bounced around several different lockup units and is currently held in solitary confinement at Pendleton Correctional Facility—despite an official order from the Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) demanding his release.

IDOC ruled Darius must be transferred out of solitary and into general population by April 14, 2025. Yet, the facility has ignored this directive, leaving Darius to endure horrific and unnecessary suffering.

Darius describes his conditions: “It is not only the mental strain, but the roaches everywhere, the intense heat throughout the day, and hostile confrontations with the staff.”

“I should’ve been out of solitary confinement,” Darius stated. Why is IDOC and Pendleton Correctional Facility dragging their feet?

Darius is not alone. He reports that many others are unnecessarily trapped in prolonged solitary confinement. He is fighting for his own justice and for better treatment for all incarcerated people.

We demand that IDOC Commissioner Lloyd Arnold and Pendleton Correctional Facility immediately:

  1. Transfer Darius Printup (#280904) to general population.
  2. Create a transparent and timely review process to prevent others from being wrongfully held in solitary.

Darius is asking for our help. Take up his call and demand justice today!

Subject: Immediate Action Required: Inmate Darius Printup #280904 Wrongfully Held in Solitary Confinement

Dear [name],

I am writing to demand the immediate transfer of inmate Darius (Hakim) Printup (#280904) from solitary confinement to general population at Pendleton Correctional Facility.

It is my understanding that despite a direct order from the IDOC mandating this transfer by April 14, 2025, Mr. Printup has been left to endure the horrific conditions of solitary confinement after being bounced around different lockup units for the past four years. This is an unacceptable failure to adhere to the IDOC’s own directive.

Mr. Printup has described his suffering in solitary, citing “the mental strain, the roaches everywhere, the intense heat throughout the day, and hostile confrontations with the staff.” His prolonged and unjust isolation constitutes a serious violation of his rights and well-being.

This case points to a larger, systemic issue. I also urge you to implement a better, more transparent review process for solitary confinement to ensure no one else is wrongfully subjected to these devastating conditions.

The time for delay is over. I urge you to take immediate action to:

  1. Immediately transfer Darius Printup (#280904) to general population.
  2. Review and reform the process for placing and reviewing inmates in restrictive housing.

I will be closely watching for updates on this urgent matter.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
