The following is a draft schedule and is subject to change (without altering the starting and ending time)
Day 1
Registration: 1:00 – 1:45 pm
Opening plenary: Framing the future (2:00 – 3:30 pm)
After the Emcee opens the event and introduces the organizations present in the room, we’ll hear from three speakers who will frame the purpose of the conference, the significance of its timing, the recent and current landscape of incarceration and prison conditions in Indiana, and the relationship between reform and revolution. This will be followed by a 30-minute question and answer session.
Panel discussion: Actual and possible transformations (3:45 – 5:00 pm)
This panel features organizers involved in various campaigns to reform our criminal injustice system, some of which have been enacted and others of which we are still organizing for, including the Second Look Act, Compassionate Release, Parole Condition Reforms, Re-Entry, and more.
Dinner break: Provided (5:00 – 5:30 pm)
Closing dialogue: Principles of unity, possible goals, strategies, and tactics (6:00 – 8:00 pm)
After hearing a summation of the day, we’ll receive a set of prompts to get us brainstorming possible points of unity and collaboration, what our groups an contribute, what our organizations have in common, and what we need.
Day 2
Registration/Light breakfast (9:30am – 9:55am)
Session 1: Starting a path forward (10:00 am- 12:00 pm)
An facilitated open dialogue continuing the conversation from the night before.
12:00 – 12:30: Break
12:30-1:45: Finalizing a path forward (12:30 – 1:45)
Based on the discussions held at the conference, we’ll use this time to collectively determine a path forward and immediate, concrete steps we need to take.
Closing mindfulness session (2:00 – 2:15)
Final remarks (2:15 – 2:30 pm)
Shaka A. Shakur will deliver the concluding remarks, summarizing the work accomplished and stressing the necessity to take the next step as a collective.
