We are reclaiming May Day’s radical roots and bringing together workers from across Indianapolis to honor the struggles that won us so many of the rights we now take for granted—from the eight-hour workday to maternity leave to disability rights in the workplace.

May Day has long been a global day of worker solidarity, but here in the U.S., it also carries a powerful immigrant justice legacy. On May 1, 2006, millions of people took part in the National Strike for a Day Without an Immigrant. Striking from work, school, and commerce, and marching in cities across the country, they demanded fair immigration reform and protested legislation that would have criminalized undocumented immigrants and those who helped them. That mobilization became one of the largest single-day actions in U.S. history and reshaped the modern movement for immigrant and worker rights.

As workers everywhere prepare to shut down the country on May 1 to stop Trump’s out-of-control billionaire agenda and the rolling back of hard-won rights, we invite the community to come out, kick back, and get to know the organizers and leaders on the front lines of today’s workers’ struggles.

We’ll have something for everyone:

  • Activities for kids – including tie-dyeing t-shirts (bring a clean white t-shirt)
  • Food and drink from local vendors
  • Music, art, and plenty to help strengthen our community and fortify our resolve for workers’ liberation

This event is sliding scale to help us cover the cost of food and beverages, though no one will be turned away for a lack of funds.

Pull up a chair, let down your hair, and join us for a May Day celebration for all to enjoy!
