When is it time to fight back and let the country (and the world) know that we are no longer accepting the things we cannot change–we are changing the things we cannot except? Now more than ever is the time for our class to educate ourselves in ways to fight back.

For decades, people have fought to keep the rights that are supposed to be guaranteed to us. We will take a page from all of the freedom fighters that came before us and plan ways to fight back through community.

During this reading group, we will be in community to discuss the roots of the anti-abortion movement, state violence, and the overall political economy of women’s oppression. We will also hear from comrades of the Party of Socialism and Liberation on why the time is now to build a socialist movement that is capable of liberating women. Capitalism and its subgroup, the patriarchy, affect all of us, not just those of us who identify as women. Assata Shakur once said “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.” and that is exactly what we intend to prepare to do by reading Breaking the Chains, a feminist and socialist magazine produced by the Party for Socialism and Liberation.
