Closing out this month’s centennial celebration of Black history, the Indianapolis Branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation will be hosting our monthly liberation forum to explore and celebrate the dynamic, living history of Black America. Hear from speakers who are actively a part of the struggle here for Black Liberation highlighting the significance of Black Indianapolis residents contribution to our city, the undercurrents of a general strike, the legacy of and current attacks on voting rights, and the importance of solidarity with working class Haitians in our country and abroad.
Under the current administration, there is a white supremacist push to rewrite American history. The legacy of Black struggle and achievement is being erased in favor of a mythical retelling of the history of the United States that denies the horrors of racism. Public recognition of the crimes of slavery, slandering and defaming of freedom fighters, and the enduring effects of mass incarceration, displacement, and oppression are being denied.
Here in our own city, we have been affected by these very systems. From senseless IMPD murders to redlining and the tearing down of Black neighborhoods. Through these struggles, Black resistance has continued to demand full liberation. Capitalism was born on the backs of Black enslaved people and this continues today. A united working class is the only answer to the overthrow of capitalism, which holds the only chance for the full liberation of Black working class people.
Engage in meaningful discussion with community members and learn about the legacy of the Black struggle and how we can keep the fight going. We will also be honoring Adam Sykes, a 31-year-old Black man who was murdered last year by IMPD cop Grant Snyder. We will be holding an altar build at the end of our discussion to celebrate his life and the many others that we have lost to state sanctioned violence. Our martyrs never die, their spirits live on in the people.
