Capitalism has failed to address the problems it has created, and people have long fought for a better alternative. So what comes next? Join us on August 20 to discuss “When the people take power,” module 4 in All Power to the People: A Summer School for Socialism, to explore how socialism is the future we need.
What would socialism actually look like in the United States? What are the core principles that would shape a new society? How would we restructure governance, the economy, and transform everyday life? Drawing from past and present experiments, we will explore the proposals of a socialist reconstruction of society, and begin to envision what a planned, people-centered economy could look like.

The case for a socialist reconstruction
Class 1
What would it mean to reconstruct U.S. society from the ground up? This class introduces the framework of socialist reconstruction: an intentional, organized process to transform the way society is organized for the benefit of the working class. We will look at what would need to change: land ownership, housing, education, healthcare, and political power. We will explore how socialist planning could prioritize human need over private profit, and why building toward this future requires mass political struggle, not just policy reform or new elected officials.
Can workers run our society?
Class 2
Capitalists claim they’re the only ones who can manage a complex economy, that the workers don’t have the “hard skills” or the “work ethic”. But is that true? This class breaks down how a socialist economy could be run by workers, communities, and public institutions. What would happen to giant corporations like Amazon or UPS? How would production be organized? Through concrete examples and practical proposals, we’ll discuss how the working class can run society, doing it better than the billionaires could even imagine.
