Fall is here and it’s time to rake up more than leaves! Bring your family and friends to the Liberation Center, as we work with Touch Grass, Indy and Fluid Skate Collective to clean up litter, debris, old flyers, and more. At the same time, we’ll promote ongoing struggles, build community, show our people they’re struggles are not isolated and, most importantly, that there is something that we can do about them if we unite.
The neighborhood around the center contains a vibrant and diverse community that includes Herron High School and IU Methodist Hospital. Our neighbors who live and work here do so much for our city and we are all directly impacted by unclean and unsafe streets cluttered with debris and pollutants. We deserve ecologically safe and clean streets that promote the well being of all.
Keeping the area healthy takes more than just regular maintenance: it involves a commitment to connecting with our community, which involves getting into the streets to build relationships with one another. Well-funded, maintained, and accessible public transit, green spaces that are interwoven into every corner and facet of the landscape, and access to affordable, healthy, and nearby food all create a thriving and vibrant community.
To get folks energized and moving, Fluid Skate Collective, a local skating crew that creates safe spaces for skaters of all wheel types to learn and build community, is partnering with TGI and the Center. If you’d like to skate with FSC during the cleanup, they will provide skateboards.
The Indianapolis Liberation Center has adopted its block in partnership with Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, through which we are able to connect with and beautify our community starting with the city’s smallest unit—the block. Fill out the form below to volunteer for the Center!
