2:00 – 3:30 pm
Indianapolis Liberation Center
In 1936, Palestinians launched a six-month general strike that, in addition to being the longest general strike in history at that time, was the start of what we know as the 1936-1939 Intifada (uprising). The Palestinian fighters, who were largely unorganized and possessed little military equipment, were able to battle the British Empire, the largest in the world.
ANSWER Indiana is leading an open study and discussion of Ghassan Kanafani’s newly-translated book, The Revolution of 1936-39 in Palestine, which offers key insights into a crucial and understudied moment in Palestinian and global history and holds lessons and provides tools for organizers fighting for peace and justice today.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the meeting and through the Indianapolis Liberation Store. Participants will engage in a guided discussion of the first 3 chapters (pages 1 – 22) of the book. All are invited, including those who aren’t able to read ahead of time or who weren’t able to make the first meeting.
