Sign the petition: “ICE out of Indiana!”

We, the undersigned, reject Mike Braun’s executive order 25-29 to force state law enforcement to work alongside ICE agents to deport our immigrant neighbors. His order came after the people prevented a similar bill from advancing in the state legislature. We will not allow Braun to circumvent democracy.

Braun, like Trump, is using immigrants as a scapegoat to distract from the real causes of the serious suffering and worsening conditions of daily life we face. We will not give into this racist rhetoric and refuse to betray our coworkers, classmates, friends, and neighbors.

A governor who does not serve the people is neither fit nor worthy of the position. For this reason, we call on Braun to resign immediately and take Micah Beckwith with him! Our state deserves a governor who represents the interests of the people. The problems we face are not the results of the immigration status of anybody in our state. Neither are they the result of a lack of resources. Instead, they are the direct consequences of the state allocation of our tax dollars to line the pockets of the billionaires and war makers at the expense of our schools, streets, sidewalks, health, wages, housing, etc.

Hoosiers stand alongside our immigrant neighbors in unbreakable solidarity, and we will do everything in the people’s power to defend them. We extend Hoosier Hospitality to all who come to call Indiana home and eagerly weave them into our social fabric. We will not have our communities violently disrupted through ICE raids nor the displacement of our immigrant neighbors. Hoosiers stand strong and we stand united against racist and xenophobic executive orders.

Braun claims that Hoosiers sent a “resounding message” in November in support of his agenda. But did we really? According to polling data, only 33% of eligible Hoosiers voted in the November elections in Indiana, compared to 61% of all eligible voters who voted in the 2020 elections. A law passed in 2024 kicked many valid voters off of the rolls and prevented them from participating in the recent election.

Braun did not win the governorship because his policies were popular: he won because of years of gerrymandering and extreme voter suppression and consequential low voter turnout made it impossible for him to lose. A majority of Hoosiers did not vote for Braun. The two capitalist parties could not even muster a majority of the voting population to the polls in November to vote for their candidates.

Braun states he’s “intending to keep (50 National Guard members) in place” at the U.S. southern border to Mexico under the false pretense of “defending our country.” The average National Guard member makes $74,000 per year. This means Indiana is spending $14,176.25 per day on maintaining the 50 guard members to round up, separate families, detain, and deport immigrant workers escaping harmful U.S. foreign policy. Since the Guard’s deployment by Governor Holcomb in 2024, this racist project has stolen over $3.7 million from our class. We reiterate that we do not want our money spent on terrorizing immigrants. Bring the National Guard home and spend that money on improving the lives of working Hoosiers.

We won’t be divided!
