Learn to be an effective organizer: Volunteer workshop

Tuesday, October 1
6:00 – 8:00 pm
Indianapolis Liberation Center

The one-year anniversary of the new Liberation Center’s grand opening is rapidly approaching. This is hard to believe because, in the last calendar year, our people both here and worldwide have made years happen. It is hard to believe that, since our grand opening on October 5, 2023, the Center and our member-organizations organized and hosted over 150 activities—from protests, rallies, and book talks to art openings, panels, press conferences, and more.

Every one of the Center’s volunteers were essential to the struggles, advances, and even victories our people won over this past year.

To not just continue this success, but to expand on it, existing organizers must both further develop themselves and train a new cohort of organizers dedicated to bettering the lives of our people. At the Center’s October volunteer workshop, we will work together to do just that!

To start the evening, we’ll hear from leading members of the Center’s various member groups, including IDOC Watch, Indiana Black Librarians Network, FOCUS Initiatives, and more. We’ll learn what these groups are, what they do, and get some hands-on experience with their organizing. PLUS, learn about our newest member organization, which will be announced at the event!

In the second half of the event, ANSWER Indiana will lead all of us in a banner and placard making workshop in preparation for the Global Day of Action for Palestine on October 5.

Learn what goes into the development of effective slogans, and help change the visual landscape of our city by creating signs that will push our struggle forward in Indianapolis and beyond!
