2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Indianapolis Liberation Center
It’s still not too late to join the Indy Liberation Store’s first study group of the year! We only have two more sessions to go before we finish the first volume of Marx’s Capital.
In this session, we’ll cover chapter 25, where Marx synthesizes his findings so far in order to explain some general tendencies of capitalist accumulation today. We’ll find they are not tendencies of a bygone era; they are still very much with us today. We’ll cover the different compositions of capital (don’t spend too much time on this), the difference between concentration and centralization of capital, and how the latter can help provide the material foundation for a higher stage of society (communism).
Further, we’ll learn the general and the absolute general law of capitalist accumulation before turning to how they continue impacting us today. We’ll gain more clarity on who Marx included in the “working class” (hint: it’s remarkably broad). Finally, we’ll spend some time on the (ongoing) colonization of Ireland, how Marx and Engels’ thought about the relationship between socialist and anti-colonial revolutions developed over time, before gearing up for our last session, where we’ll cover Part 8 of the book!
