Liberation Flicks: U.S. bombs from Philly to Tehran

Sliding scale: $5 – $20

Join ANSWER Indiana and PSL Indianapolis for another entry in the Liberation Flicks series at the Indianapolis Liberation Center: “U.S bombs there, U.S. bombs here: From Philly to Tehran.” For this installment, we’ll examine how the violence of U.S. imperialism abroad inevitably returns home, targeting oppressed communities within the United States itself.

We will begin by viewing a short documentary on the 1985 MOVE bombing in Philadelphia, a shocking act of state violence where, using a helicopter, the Philadelphia police dropped two bombs on a residential neighborhood. The state killed 11 people—five of them children—destroyed over 60 homes, and left over 200 people homeless. The film features from Ramona Africa, one of only two survivors of this attack on a Black liberation organization that stands as an extreme example of domestic repression in recent U.S. history.

Next, we’ll view a news recap on the ongoing U.S. war against Iran, showing how tactics of militarism, surveillance, and collective punishment are used globally against anyone who challenges U.S. imperialism.

After the films, we will open a group discussion exploring the concept of the “imperial boomerang,” the notion that the tools of imperial domination developed for use abroad are inevitably turned inward against poor and oppressed peoples.

From Philadelphia to the Middle East, the same system that bombs and occupies other nations also polices, surveils, and represses communities here. Understanding this connection is critical for building a united movement against imperialism in all its forms.

This event is open to anyone interested in learning more, engaging in discussion, and organizing for a world free from imperialism and oppression. Questions? Email organizer@answerindiana.org. Want to join the peace movement? Fill out the form below!
