A few days into the new year is usually seen as a time for reflection, renewal, and transformation. Our new year’s resolution is to spread the love of reading to even more Liberated Readers in 2025! We are kicking off 2025 with our very special Indiana Black Librarians Network member who needs no introduction, Maurice Broaddus! As a librarian and established author, Broaddus knows how to tell a good story. He has written for Marvel Comics in the popular Black Panther series as well as publishing stories in sci-fi and horror genres. Come and share with us Maurice’s love of storytelling and kid-friendly adventures!

Winter can be the most challenging season because it is cold and it gets dark early outside, but that does not mean we can’t still have fun. Overcoming challenges happens to many characters in the stories we tell, in part, inspiring us to overcome any obstacles that may be in our way. In the cold winter months, it is important to reflect on those obstacles and how we go about overcoming them together. Join us for another storytime geared towards kids 0 to 8 years old filled with winter wonderland adventures.

Broaddus is an educator and librarian, recently reviving a historically Black library at the Oaks Academy. He is a published author and community organizer. Broaddus loves to tell stories and spread his joy of reading and writing to his students. Broaddus will identify a need for the community and work tirelessly to overcome any roadblocks in bringing his ideas into reality.

Indiana Black Librarians Network knows how to overcome our challenges as well. Through collaborating with our leadership, membership and community, we are strengthening our organization through robust programs and engaging opportunities for professional development within librarianship. We are happy to have such talented IBLN members like Broaddus who will certainly help our organization and community reach new heights, tell more stories and go on new adventures!
