Thus far, every socialist revolution has taken place in countries underdeveloped by imperialism and colonialism, creating nearly impossible tasks for the leadership and the masses. Despite the overwhelming odds, they made (and make) incredible strides. But what would socialism look like in the United States, the most powerful imperialist country in the world? While Socialist Reconstruction provides a realistic and positive program for the future, it doesn’t prescribe solutions.
Instead, it provides an opening for the people to begin answering those questions ourselves, in the here and now. Because it is everyday working and oppressed people who have and will continue to make history. If you know, or even think, a radically different world is possible, you need to be part of the discussion. That is the only way we can raise socialist consciousness and win vast segments of society, those who are disaffected by the two-party dictatorship, to our side.
