Turn up for this special event featuring organizer, journalist, and author Eugene Puryear! We’re excited to host Eugene for this guest talk, which comes the day after the final event in our three-part series on his book, Shackled and Chained: Mass Incarceration in Capitalist America. Puryear’s talk will focus on the current state of the Black Liberation movement in the U.S., providing the necessary historical and global context to not only understand the movement but, ultimately, lead it to victory.
Puryear, a founding member of the Party for Socialism and Liberation and the Party’s Vice-Presidential candidate in 2008 and 2016, started organizing as a student at Howard University and hasn’t stopped. He helped lead the fight for justice for the Jena 6 and the historic anti-Iraq war struggle as a member of the ANSWER Coalition. He has been at the frontlines of people’s struggles across the country and globe.
Puryear was interviewed and featured in the May 2016 edition of The Atlantic during his Vice-Presidential candidate race and has been on numerous news stations, talk shows, and more throughout his time in the struggle.
After co-hosting By Any Means Necessary, a daily two-hour podcast for several years, Eugene started working as a journalist at BreakThrough News, where he co-hosts The Freedom Side with Rania Khalek. The show airs every Thursday at 3:00 pm and delivers news and analysis for self-determination, covering U.S. and global politics. He is one of the few U.S. journalists covering the conflict in northern Ethiopia.
Don’t miss your opportunity to hear from and speak with Puryear at the Indianapolis Liberation Center!
