In the face of nonstop pro-war propaganda from the American mass media, there is a pressing need for art and other forms of expression that reflect the antiwar commitments of the majority of the working class in the U.S. and around the world.
We can look for inspiration from recent movements like Artists Against Apartheid, a grassroots collective of artists that emerged to produce pro-Palestine art in the face of the escalating Israeli genocide of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 7 (and will be featured at the Jan. 5 Liberation Center First Friday). The Palestinian struggle is intimately connected with the struggles of countries around the world targeted by U.S. aggression, from Yemen to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and even more distant countries like Cuba. Tying together these different threads is key to understanding and effectively fighting back against imperialism.
Organizers with the ANSWER Coalition will be holding an informational and art building session together with local sign artist Good Job Signs on Thursday, January 11, at 5:30 pm. Together we will learn about different anti-imperialist struggles around the world and how they connect to each other and to the current crisis in Palestine. Then we will use our collective knowledge and creativity to make artwork and change the visual and aesthetic landscape of our city. Don’t miss out!
