Forum: Black August: The promise of Black Liberation, 8/26

Friday, August 26 6:00 pm Indianapolis Liberation Center 55 S. State Ave., 3rd Floor

Throughout U.S. history, the struggle for Black liberation has posed the greatest threat to the rule of the capitalist class. The oppression of Black America is so central to the country that the struggle for Black liberation has often acted as a detonator, setting off broader social struggles throughout the system.

During the month of “Black August,” we commemorate the heroic, centuries-long struggle for Black liberation, remember the fallen fighters in the Black struggle, call for the release of political prisoners in the U.S., and rededicate ourselves to the interlinked struggles for Black liberation and class liberation. We’ll discuss the roots, relevance, and principles of Black August, and recount the life and legacy of George Jackson.

At this Liberation Forum, we’ll analyze the untold or whitewashed history of the Black Liberation struggle—including the relationship between the Black freedom struggle and other liberation movements—and the lessons it holds for us today.

We’re honored to be joined at this special Liberation Forum by guest speaker Nino Brown, a member of the PSL’s Central Committee and of the Jericho Movement. Nino recently edited the book Revolutionary Education: Theory and Practice for Socialist Organizers.
