Outside of Wing Stop
16 N Pennsylvania St, Indianapolis
Join the family of Jamar Thomas and the organizers of the Indianapolis Liberation Center to hold a vigil where Jamar’s life was tragically altered by an armed gunman who got away with murder. We mourn and celebrate the life of an incredible man in our city—a life cut short. We stand together to fight for truth and justice in Jamar’s murder. This vigil is only the beginning.
On March 7, Jamar and Lamonte Thomas went to the Wing Stop downtown to order food. Shortly after, Jamar was shot. Lamonte was found by IMPD restraining the shooter. Instead of rewarding Lamonte for saving countless lives that night from an armed man with a gun, IMPD charged both Jamar and Lamonte with robbery and criminal confinement. The news printed the bogus police report, and the city is now primed to think Jamar and Lamonte were ruthless criminals attacking an armed “victim”—despite having no weapons themselves.
Jamar Thomas later died from his gunshot wound on March 24 while in police custody. Lamonte sits in jail at the Community Justice Center awaiting his trial on April 27.
The state is rushing to convict Lamonte for robbery. Even though Jamar has died, he is still charged with robbery—causing a multitude of issues for Jamar’s 18-year-old daughter to access his hard-earned benefits from Eli Lilly.
The people of Indianapolis reject the narrative that IMPD and the shooter want us to believe: that these two Black men were robbers and the white gunman was the victim. If anything, they were heroes that night. Their bravery to disarm a gunman in downtown should be rewarded–not punished. We demand answers and justice.
