Wednesday, December 20
6:30 – 8:30 pm
Indy Liberation Center
1800 N. Meridian St., Suite 305
Hope Packages and The Good Friends Alliance invite you to come together with your community at the Indianapolis Liberation Center for the inspiring “Swap of Joy” holiday gift exchange! This gathering transcends conventional gift-giving, offering an alternative approach to the hyper-consumerism that dominates and even contradicts the holiday season.
After a discussion about the challenges of consumer norms, trying to navigate responsible choices in a highly-constrained economy, and the stigma associated with receiving second-hand gifts; we’ll have our own gift exchange. The gathering not only symbolizes the support we have for each other in our communities but is a concrete manifestation of an alternative exchange economy.
This is a “bring what you can, take what you need” event, so whether or not you have any of the following, you are still more than welcome to come!
What to contribute to the gift exchange
Bring gifts (gently used and washed) that will both last and of course be fun! Examples include:
Seasonal
- Socks
- Gloves
- Hats
- Coats
Essential
- Common clothes
- Hand warmers
- Hygiene items
Thoughtful
- Trendy clothes
- Toys/playsets
- Trinkets
- Books
Whatever you bring that someone doesn’t take home will be donated to local charities and businesses.
Your presence here is an example of community solidarity! If you’re unable to attend, contribute items to GFA or HP or consider donating to the Liberation Center, as these contributions and the work of our volunteers are what keep these organizations running.
Join us in fostering community and purpose at the Swap of Joy: Holiday Gift Exchange!
