2424 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. St.
Kicking off the 2024 year, Hope Packages continues to hit the ground running with the same determination, vision, and energy that allowed us to bring aid to some of our most vulnerable unhoused community members in 2023. To continue this struggle in 2024 we recognize it is foundational for people to have an understanding of mutual aid including what it is, how it works, and how people can get involved in providing it.
As such, we are excited to lend our support and come out to the 2nd Annual Mutual Aid Forum on Monday, January 15, at 6:00 pm put on by Flanner Farms and Ujamaa Community Bookstore. Because of the constant demands capitalism and racism place on our people, many understandably take January 15, officially recognized as “Martin Luther King Jr. Day” as a day of rest.
For the groups organizing this event and Hope Packages, however, MLK Day is a day of action and, in this case, learning and getting connected with local organizations and community members engaging in mutual aid across Indianapolis. In addition, this forum with help launch Flanner Farms’ and Ujamaa Community Bookstore’s “Mutual Aid Mondays” programming.
Whether it is Mutual Aid Mondays or Hope Packages’ monthly donation drives, those who do volunteer and are involved with us come to find that their support is critical to sustaining and growing these programs. So, get together with Hope Packages this MLK Day and come on out to the Mutual Aid Forum to build solidarity and get plugged in with local organizations working to change our community for the better.
