The Supreme Court’s recent decision in Louisiana v. Callais has gutted one of the main powers of the Voting Rights Act—its capacity to protect equal representation of minorities in the drawing of voting districts.  This decision pulls back over one hundred years of progress towards equality in elections, pushed forward by generations of mass political involvement and mobilization. “It means you can have entire communities that can go without having representation,” said Cliff Albright, a co-founder of Black Voters Matter. “It is literally throwing us back to the Jim Crow era unapologetically, and that’s not an exaggeration.”

At the same time, 2026 marked 78 years since the Nakba, when Zionist settlers expelled Palestinians from their homes to create the State of Israel. What does Nakba Day mean, and what is the current state of Palestinian resistance?

As part of the economic front of the Iran War, Donald Trump sanctioned Chinese companies that bought Iranian oil. The People’s Republic of China responded by invoking its Blocking Act for the first time, ordering Chinese companies to ignore US sanctions. Earlier this month, Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a brief summit in Beijing. In the wake of that summit, Trump discussed the possibility of lifting sanctions on China.
