You filled the shelves, now help assemble and distribute Hope Packages!

Sunday, April 26
1:00 – 3:00 pm
Indianapolis Liberation Center

Over this past month, we’ve proudly (and successfully) partnered with our friends at The Whispering Shelf bookstore on a donation drive. The community support has been remarkable so far (the last day to drop off listed items is Saturday, April 25)!

The very next day, we’ll take action with our monthly Hope Packages assembly in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the way violence shapes our communities. Studies show that nearly 60% of women experiencing homelessness as a direct result of domestic violence.

These numbers reflect the reality of what it means to live under what bell hooks referred to as a “transnational white supremacist capitalist patriarchy.” Any human who is experiencing violence deserves a space of respite and more often than not, women and children are the first ones to experience homelessness.

Our collaboration with The Whispering Shelf has prioritized hydration packs. Water is a human right and with the extreme climate changes, many homeless people are at risk of dehydration. At the same time, Palestine and Iran’s water supply is being viciously poisoned by Israeli bombings of their desalination centers. As we gather to provide critical care for our immediate community, we cannot forget those victims of U.S. imperialism struggling overseas.

This month we are partnering with the Whispering Shelf to collect donations for our hydration packs for our upcoming assembly, next month we would love to partner with more organizations who believe we can end homelessness. Check out our Instagram to for details on what items are needed and how to get them to us.

When you donate to Hope Packages, you’re not only helping our homeless neighbors survive, you’re also working toward a larger overarching project of transforming our city. A transformation where instead of giving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to real estate developers and banks, we use that money to actually correct the structures and systems that cause homelessness. If you have questions or want to get more involved, reach out to us in person at the center or email info@indyhopepackages.org.
