Keep Indy’s radical art gallery uplifting the works of artists of color here!

The Fonseca-Du Bois Gallery, powered by Arte Mexicano en Indiana, is proud to collaborate with local artists for our second annual Indianapolis tradition: “Frida by colors: An annual exhibition by artists of color inspired by Frida Kahlo,” which celebrates the life and legacy of Frida Kahlo—a visionary artist and freedom fighter for justice.

Last year’s inaugural exhibition featured the works of Angelita Hampton. This year’s exhibition will showcase works by multiple artists from across the city, highlighting their unique perspectives and the ways Kahlo’s legacy inspires their craft. The event will also feature an interactive segment where attendees can create their own Kahlo-inspired artwork while exploring how socialist politics influenced her work.

At the Fonseca-Du Bois Gallery, we believe political change in Indianapolis cannot happen without ongoing cultural transformation. As living proof of Indiana’s “more than corn” moniker, we provide a space for collective creativity, collaboration, and empowerment.

Frida Kahlo’s art was more than a celebration of culture; it was a bold challenge to capitalism, imperialism, colonialism, gender norms, and all systems of oppression. Today, as attacks on workers and immigrants intensify, we uplift the artists in our city who resist oppression through creative expression. Join us as we honor Kahlo’s legacy and explore how art can help us build collective power.
