On February 6, Eleanor Northington, a 43-year-old Black woman was killed by officers of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in their response to a call to 911 for her having a mental health crisis. Answer Indiana is joining the call to action by IMPD Transparency and Indy10 Black Lives Matter to demand: “Justice for Eleanor Northington!”
We know that police killings are only addressed when the public demands it. We are asking our supporters to call or email one or more of the people below to demand justice for Eleanor. A sample script written by Indy10 Black Lives Matter is included below.
IMPD Merit Board: 317-327-3285 (email: jeanie.hedlund@indy.gov)
Chief Bryan Roach: 317-327-3282 (email: bryan.roach@indy.gov)
Mayor Joe Hogsett: 317-327-3601
“My name is _________. I’m calling on behalf of Eleanor Northington. I am asking that you release the names of the arresting officers that killed her and fire them. I also want to hear from you why no task force has been formed to change IMPD policies dealing with people with mental illnesses since the killing of Alex Myers, Christopher Goodlow, and Paul Daniels? Why was Eleanor Northington handled so violently? And why has MCAT not been expanded? Please address these concerns at your press conference Friday at noon. Thanks.”
