Support Indianapolis’ liberated space!
Join organizers from the Indy Liberation Center for outreach Saturday to connect with neighbors and local businesses to help build turnout for the general strike on May Day here in Indianapolis.
While working families are being forced to shoulder the rising costs of childcare, gas, groceries, healthcare, and other necessities, Trump and the ultra-rich have no problem spending billions on ICE, border patrol, and war overseas. There is no time to wait for politicians or elections in a situation so dire, which is why workers, students, labor leaders, and progressive organizations across the country are taking matters into their own hands by calling for a general strike on May Day.
May Day, or International Workers’ Day, is a holiday that celebrates the general strike of 1886 where workers all over the world refrained from work, school, and shopping in order to bargain for the eight hour work day. Workers risked their livelihoods, and in some cases their lives, in order to shut down profit making for the ultra-wealthy ruling class to demonstrate that it is in fact working people who make this country run. This year, cities all over the country will participate in mass demonstrations to display the collective power of the people and deal a blow to the Trump administration’s agenda of racism, war, and attacks on the working class.
We will be meeting at the Indianapolis Liberation Center for a short orientation before heading out to spread flyers around Fountain Square and neighboring areas. All materials will be provided. Outreach is how we grow the movement for a better world and bring more people into the fight for a better future. We hope to see you there as we organize, mobilize, and prepare for May Day!
