The Wikimedians of Indiana User Group is taking over the Center with an edit-a-thon geared towards reclaiming Indiana radical history. We invite wiki editors, new and experienced, to come in to work with the experts in reclaiming our history and digitally preserving it for others to learn more about the rich history of radical politics throughout Indiana. Historians classify Indiana as a conservative state—and it may be true that our political system is captured by the conservative elements and interests in Indiana—but we can’t ignore the radical history in the Hoosier state, the birthplace of leaders such as Shirley Graham Du Bois and Eugene V. Debs, the home of events like the 1972 National Black Political Convention in Gary, IN, and hub of active organizations such as UAW, teamsters, Socialist Workers Party and more.
Help the team recover the people, places, and events that demonstrate Hoosiers’ long history of resistance against oppression. Whether you have your own idea for an article or simply want to help edit existing articles by making corrections or adding clarifying information, you are encouraged to attend. To participate, ensure you bring your own laptop or come prepared to share with someone else. Our truly collaborative efforts will not just reclaim the radical history of the Hoosier state for ourselves, but also for everyone else using the internet!
