This conversation, hosted by the People’s Forum, features women veterans from the Black Panther Party.
The book, Comrade Sisters: Women of the Black Panther Party serves as an opening to discuss their memories and analyses of their experiences in the Party and the movement. Comrade Sisters was written by early Party leader Ericka Huggins, accompanied by photographs by Stephen Shames, and includes a foreword by Angela Davis.
These revolutionaries share their personal histories of, reasons for, and process of joining the Black Panther Party, which was composed of more than 65 percent women. The event, organized by the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization/Pastors for Peace, served as a fundraiser for the “Our Cuban Kids Count Too!” Campaign, which provides cancer medicines for children in Cuba who cannot access them due to the U.S. Blockade.
The video begins around the 30 minute mark.
