Nasreen Khan is a self-taught, collaborativve wood-burning artist. At this workshop, Khan will teach the fundamentals of burning into leather as our medium. Learn how to safely create your design and burn your creative vision into the leather. Let your imagination run wild and leave with a beautiful piece to hang on your wall or give away as a gift.
“We’re using leather because it is faster to create designs in leather as opposed to wood,” said Nasreen. The skills will easily transfer over to burning in wood through this introductory class.
Build on your creative skill-set or explore your creativity with this community-driven workshop. Nasreen’s work—featured in the gallery through May—combines botanical imagery with the lived experiences of sex workers, using fire to etch stories into wood with stunning precision and care. Her pieces reclaim plant symbolism from colonial and patriarchal histories, turning it into something personal, political, and powerful.
In this workshop, you’ll learn basic pyrography techniques and create your own piece on leather hide—a flexible, tactile surface that Nasreen has been experimenting with alongside her wood pieces.
No experience necessary. All tools and materials provided.
