Gold Key winning art and writing from the Central and Southern Indiana region of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is on exhibit throughout September at the Garfield Park Arts Center. Students in grades 7-12 entered their work early in 2024, and jurors from around the community recognized works marked by originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

The public is invited to an opening reception on Friday, September 6, from 6 to 8 pm. The Garfield Park Arts Center is located at 2432 Conservatory Drive on the Southside of Indianapolis. See the art and meet some of the student artists. Refreshments will be served. Click here for more information about the Scholastic Awards.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are a national program founded in 1923 by publisher Maurice R. Robinson, who said the purpose of the awards program is “to open avenues of expression to young people before the springs of imagination have run dry under the standardizing pressure of adult life, and to insure to a wide group of future citizens, regardless of vocation, a sense of the power of independent thought and an appreciation of the beauty and wonder of existence.”
