ALL OUT: Support Nichelle Hayes at IndyPL Board Meeting

Thurs., Dec. 8
5:30 pm
Library Services Center
2450 N. Meridian St.

AFSCME Local 3395 and the Indianapolis Liberation Center encourage the community to give public comment in support of Nichelle Hayes as the people’s choice for IndyPL CEO! She has already done amazing work in the past eight months as the interim-CEO including securing $4 million in grants and funding to increase the quality of programming, addressed staff pay with a 5% increase with the goal of bringing staff pay above market to make IndyPL an attractive place to work in the city and in the library profession. Staff report that morale has improved under her leadership. A children’s library worker stated that she supports Nichelle Hayes as the next CEO because in her interim period she has been accessible to staff. She feels heard and that systems and the work environment are improving under an engaged CEO.

The Library union president Michael Torres is calling on union members, the community and community partners to show up to the Thursday’s board meeting to support Nichelle Hayes because he knows that a majority of the board has not been supportive of listening to the community or staff when it is needed the most. The board is completely unaccountable to the workers or the community when they are unwilling to listen to the will of the people. The people have spoken: make Nichelle Hayes the next CEO now! We must come out and support the union’s choice, Nichelle Hayes, to secure her position as IndyPL’s next CEO!
